Unrest || Don

"Possibly two dead,"Mac reported as he listened to the ringing of his phone. The rest of the noise around him sounded distant. "Mac, what's going on?"Stella finally answered his call. "I need you and the rest of the team, everyone, at the Federal Building as quick as possible. We've got a matter of security on our hands and two explosives already taxing the crews here. As soon as you can, please."

Stella sighed. "Oh my God. What the hell happened up there? I hear a bunch of sirens. Wasn't Don with u?" she asked.

Mac sighed and nodded, waving off a concerned medic, saying there was more heavily injured people that needed the attention more than himself. "Yeah. We got nailed and I got thrown down the stairs,"he told Stella honestly. At the risk of sounding out of character, he didn't hide his worry for his partner. "I just saw an ambulance out taking Don to the hospital and I'm hoping to leave Danny in charge until you guys can get here. I want to get to the hospital to be there and get the verdict, whether I'm taken in the back of an ambulance or manage to drive myself. I can't leave him and I sure's hell can't lose him."

Stella was very concerned at Mac's assessment of Don. "Don's a fighter, he's not gonna let those injuries beat him down. And don't u dare try to drive yourself to the hospital, Mac, you're too injured. Give me ten minutes and I'll drive u there myself, I don't care if u protest that. Even if I have to drag u from your shirt collar, I'll do whatever it takes to stop u from driving yourself." she said, fidgeting through her desk to find the keys to her car.

Mac sighed and nodded. "I don't have the energy or evidence to protest and support my protesting,"he said. "I'll be waiting for you here."

Stella nodded. "Sounds good. I'll call u when I get there." she said.

Mac nodded as he leaned against his Avalanche, which he'd finally reached with a bit of difficulty between his leg and the officers he was trying to organize to work with search and rescue units and the bomb squad along the way. "Sounds good, I'll be here by my Avalanche."

Stella nodded and hung up the phone. She raced to her car which was in the parking garage and rushed to the Federal Building. Luckily for her, she wasn't too far. As soon as she arrived, she called Mac on his phone. "Mac, I'm here. I see your Avalanche but not u." she said.

"Yeah, get up there and Detective Messer is in charge now, got it?"Mac rushed the remainder of his orders to the fresh group of officers from a precinct in Brooklyn before he had answered Stella's call. "I'm here, I just had another unit to send out,"he said, heading back for the Avalanche. In the time since he'd last spoken to her, he'd developed a noticeable limp from the injury to his left leg and he quickly found Stella near his truck. Putting his phone away, he greeted her, "Hey, thanks for coming out."

Stella nodded and studied the damage left from the explosion. "My pleasure, Mac. It's funny how such a small bomb can do so much damage. Any word on Flack?" she asked.

Mac sighed and leaned against his Avalanche, relieved that he could after the chaos he'd just witnessed. "Bombs are no small thing in any way, shape, or form, Stella. I should know. This guy, whoever he is, knew what he was doing,"he said, looking over at the building, damaged by the explosives and with search and rescue teams racing in and out with more and more people always with them on the way out, and sometimes on the way in as well. "The set up was complicated and it would've taken even the bomb squad a while to disarm it. And no, I haven't. That's why I want to get to the hospital. I need to know he's ok,"he said anxiously, worried about his partner and setting his left foot down in a lapse of memory of the injury with a wince. He recoiled from the pain and leaned against the Avalanche once more. "Not to mention I'm probably not doing much good for myself by standing around here like I am."

Stella pocketed her phone and grabbed Mac's arm and carefully helped him inside the Avalanche. "We can leave my car here and take the Avalanche. Come on, get in the car while I talk to the medics real quick." she said, motioning over for one of the medics to come over to where she was. "Detectives, u need something?" the medic asked. Stella nodded and looked at Mac then at the medic. "Yeah, um do u know what hospital they took Detective Don Flack to?" she asked. The medic nodded. "They took him to Mercy, a Detective. U might wanna get there fast, your partner's leg needs immediate attention." he said. Stella nodded in confirmation. "Let's get u to that hospital fast, Mac." she said.

Mac nodded and allowed Stella to help him without protest, turning and getting in the Avalanche. He only nodded when Stella told him they were going. "Yeah, let's get going."

Stella hopped in the driver's seat and started the car. She drove quickly to the hospital, putting on the police sirens so other cars would hopefully get the message and get out of her way. She continuously glanced over at Mac, who was wincing in pain. "You'll be fine, Mac. Once we get u settled in we'll see if maybe they can let u see Don." she said.

Mac nodded and, through gritted teeth, replied, "Sounds like a plan. I'm just along for the ride now."

Stella and Mac arrived at the hospital and she quickly helped Mac out of the car. "I need a wheelchair quickly, my friend needs immediate medical attention. Name's Detective Mac Taylor, they told us Detective Don Flack was brought here." she said.

The nurse nodded. "Yes, he was." She looked to Mac. "Bomb?"she asked. Mac nodded. "Left leg, I hit my right arm on the railing when I was thrown down the stairs."

Stella sighed. "How quickly can u get Mac checked out?" she asked.

"I can take him back now and I'll let Doctor Hunter know he's in as well,"the nurse said. Mac nodded. "I'd appreciate that." The nurse nodded. "Let's get you back there and set up. That leg injury looks pretty nasty." She started to take Mac back when she paused, looking back at Stella. "I'll send someone out to let you know about these two."

Stella nodded. "Thank u. U gonna be ok by yourself, Mac?" she asked, holding his hand, before the nurse took him back to get looked at.

Mac nodded. "Yeah. I'll manage,"he said. He flashed a partial smile. "I'll be damned the day I let some jackass bomber keep me down without a fight."

Stella laughed and nodded. "Ok. I'll have my phone on, and I'll give the number to the nurses just in case they need to get a hold of me. Umm, just out of curiosity, is surgery gonna play a factor in all of this?" she asked.

Mac smiled and the nurse nodded. "Quite possibly. First we need to judge the damage done by the blast and I'll run an x-ray on his arm to find out what he did there. It's one of those things that really depends on what the damage is."

Stella nodded and was scared. She wasn't sure how the surgery was gonna go, if that was gonna happen. "Thanks, nurse. I hate to be a bother but u think u can find out if Don is out of surgery and if he's up for visitors?" she asked.

The nurse nodded. "I'll find that out as soon as I can and have someone let you know,"she said.
